Recognition & Achievements

Falls Church High School is Again a Blue Ribbon School.  For the third time in the last four years, Falls Church High School has become the recipient of the Blue Ribbon for Superior Performance School Award from the Virginia Music Educator's Association. This award is only received by Virginia high schools whose top ensembles in band, orchestra and choir receive Superior ratings at their District Festival.

  • On March 13th, the Falls Church High School Orchestra received Superior ratings from all four judges at their District Orchestra Festival held at Edison.
  • On March 6th, the Falls Church High School Symphonic Band also received Superior ratings from all four of their judges at the District Band Festival that was held at West Potomac HS.  This accomplishment for the Band, coupled with the Superior rating that the Marching Jaguars received last October, has earned the Band recognition as a "Virginia Honor Band", the highest distinction that a band program can receive from the Virginia Band & Orchestra Director's Association. This is only the second time that the FCHS Band has achieved this honor since the award was introduced in 1982.
  • On March 21st, FCHS' Madrigal Choir had a successful run at the Music Festival, scoring straight superior ratings with their judges.

CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS DIVE TEAM!  Emily Sturges, Hannah Wilkerson and Maggie Cullather performed very well in the District Meet. Congratulations to Hannah Wilkerson for placing sixth and qualifying for the Regional Championship meet.  An extra special congratulations to freshman Maggie Cullather, the 2009 National District dive champion!

Riley Louden Advances to State!  Junior and team captain, Riley Louden, just qualified for the Indoor Track State Championships in the pole vault event.  Riley competed this past Saturday, February 21st, at the Northern Region Championships at George Mason University  where she placed in the top 6 to guarantee her a spot to advance to the State Meet.  Riley was the National District Champion in the pole vault earlier in the month where she broke the meet record in that event.  Riley came into the event at a starting height of 7 feet 6 inches with no faults leading up her jump of 9 feet.  Though she was unable to clear 9 feet, which would have been a personal best, her previous jumps were perfect, unlike her competitors who carried faults.  This placed her in the competition at 6th place.  The top 6 advance to States.  Riley is the only female track athlete to qualify for States at FCHS in Track since Julia Long in 2004.  The last male athlete to qualify for States was Tony Collins in the 55m Hurdles back in 2006.  Riley will compete at the State Championships on 27 February at the Bo Williams Sportscomplex in Hampton, VA.

2009 Virginia All State Chorus.  Lani Stait from FCHS has been named to the Virginia All-State Chorus for 2009 and will perform April 23-25 at Massaponax High School in Fredricksburg.
